Renewable Energy could be generated in various ways for Kirkbymoorside, but for our first few years we are working on Solar PV. We are bringing together people who would like to invest in solar power with others who would like solar PV panels on their home, business premises or community building.
Solar PV Panels produce electricity from the sun’s energy, which is used to power electrical appliances. Any un-used electricity is sold back to the National Grid.
The Society arranges the quotes and installation of the solar PV panels, and receives the Feed in Tariff (FITS) payments from the Government. The owners of the roof benefit from lower annual electricity bills. The investors, who jointly paid for the installation, will get a likely return of 4 - 4.7% for the 20 year FITS lifespan. Investors will also gradually be repaid their investment, with the repayments and interest being spread 6-monthly across the 20 years.
All roof-owners and investors become members of the Society, and can get involved in the development of future projects if they wish to. We are currently all volunteers, and we have Model Rules which were registered for us by Co-operatives UK Ltd. Our first Solar PV installation, shown in the picture above, was in 2012 on "The Green Building" which belongs to Kirkbymoorside & District Pre-School Playgroup.
Our 2015 share offer achieved two further Solar PV installations, which were both on domestic properties. We are now planning what to do next!
Thank you for visiting our website. We would welcome your suggestions about how we can further develop it.
We would also like to say thanks to Bath and West Community Energy Co-op and to Bristol Energy Co-op for letting us use some of their own websites content to develop ours.
